We have a court date!!
On August 17, 2012 we will go to court in Texas to stand in front of a judge. We pray that this judge see us fit to be Levi's forever parents.
While that may sound VERY exciting - it is also very, um....stressful. Just because we have the date does not mean it's all going to be a bed of roses. There are some things that have to happen in the right order.
For one: Kentucky must "officially" terminate the birthmother's parental rights. Yes, she did sign the correct paperwork, but the Judge has to basically drop the gavel on that particular piece before it is absolutely FINAL. Sounds simple. But, there is more to it.
They are very cautious about the way they do this. It makes sense. When you think about it, if they terminate the rights before the adoption is final, then something goes wrong on our end, then Levi is left with no "legal" parent.
However, Texas is hesitant to grant a final adoption until the parental rights are terminated on the other end.
It's the ol' chicken and the egg story.
We can see both sides to this. We also know something is going to have to give in order for it to work out. We are faithful that it will work out. But, that doesn't relieve the stress as we wait for the date to approach.
Of course, we will give you updates as we have more information. Thank you for your continued love and support.
